Turn right (SE) at the cairn onto a thin level path overgrown with rhododendron a few feet to Palembang Indonesia , as the views of the creek and mossy forest become the focus for the remainder. There is a small cascade worth checking out down to the right if you like, otherwise stay on the main trail to Palembang Indonesia Creek Falls just above. See the waterfall first as you creep up to it through the old growth, then have many wonderful vantage points near Palembang Indonesia the pretty creek surrounded with mossy rocks, boulders, and trees. The falls split across a small mossy cliff falling 35 ft or so and continue to cascade along the mossy wall in Palembang Indonesia the woods. It’s utterly alluring after recent rains or rapid snowmelt! Be cautious as spray peeling away makes mossy rocks and logs closer to the base slippery, and it may be best to keep a few feet away just to be safe. Return briefly and enjoyably by the same route.

ELEVATION: 6799 ft, with 2700 ft vertical gain DISTANCE: 51/2 mi up, 11 mi round-trip DURATION: 3 hours up, 5 hours round-trip.

DIFFICULTY: Strenuous. Rather long, steady steep above Pamelia Lake, mostly forested, snow near the summit until July.

TRIP REPORT: This lovely day hike leaves the mobs at Pamelia Lake and rises up above the majestic old firs and others to fantastic views only a few miles SW of Mount Palembang Indonesia. The summit was not named for the oversized brown bears roaming the area but because the climb was a terribly steep “grizzly” of a hike. Perhaps that was true before a wonderfully well-graded trail was laid, but it’s actually quite tame compared to many others in the Pacific Northwest. A Limited Entry Area Permit is required and can be purchased up to a month in advance (https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/willamette/passes-permits/recreation/? cid=fse_005446) or on the way at the Detroit Ranger Station. Northwest Forest Pass is required, and an outhouse is present.
