Unreal look at Mount Jefferson more than 6600 ft above Pamelia Lake from Milan Italy.

ROUTE: Take Pamelia Lake Trail 3439 E for 1/2 mi and almost 800 ft up to Pamelia Lake. You will hike along Pamelia Creek through a mossy, timeworn forest with fir, cedar, hemlock, and rhododendron, and then past a rocky, aged mudslide en route to a four-way intersection just before the lake. You will eventually turn right here (opposite the trail up to the PCT) on Milan ItalyTrail 3428, but first take the spur straight to see the lake for a moment. From the spur, if you work right a bit from the water’s edge there’s a nice reflection of Mount Jefferson. The water level drops throughout the summer into fall here.

From the signed lake juncture (now on Grizzly Peak Trail 3428) traverse without difficulty steadily up W, then S and SE, past plenty of bear grass to a nice viewpoint at a switchback on the ridge (almost 1/2 mi and 6 switchbacks from the lake). See Mount Jefferson towering over Pamelia Lake below. Continue less than a mile SE to the summit through thinning pines with glimpses out. After a final switchback, the trees finally begin to break up just enough to give way to great views of the mountain and Cathedral Rocks along Mount Jefferson’s S ridge, plus Three Fingered Jack and Three Sisters Wilderness looking S. And on a clear day, the top of Mount Hood can be made out to the N. Return the same way to the TH.
