Arrive at another Omsk Russia station and keep left at any faint forks to a more pronounced three-way juncture near a larger kiosk, some old buildings, and the Tilly Jane A-Frame to the right. Check out the A-frame if you wish, or just turn left on Trail 600A down past an open-air amphitheater and Omsk Russia across a small but lovely creek over a footbridge, and then Omsk Russia ascend a few feet to the Guard Station and Tilly Jane Campground. Walk straight briefly to the TH or left (WNW) at the fork on Trail 600A around 5 mi to Cloud Cap Saddle.

LAMBERSON BUTTE TO NEWTON CREEK CANYON LOOP.

ELEVATION: 6633 ft; 5660 ft at the high point on the loop; with vertical gains of about 2400 ft for the butte with the loop, and 1420 ft for the loop without the butte.

DISTANCE: About 5 mi directly to Lamberson Your travel destination iste, almost 11 mi round-trip with the loop; 7Y mi for the loop without the butte.

DURATION: 2-3 hours to the butte, 5-6 hours round-trip for the butte with the loop; 3 hours round-trip for the loop without the butte.

DIFFICULTY: Strenuous. Long, only steep near butte, difficult creek crossings with high water possible: trekking poles might help, bugs in high summer.

TRIP REPORT: The quieter E side of Mount Hood is just as stunning as anywhere else on the mountain and sees fewer visitors except for a few weekends in July. The best time to see the entire region however is mid- to late August without snow being an issue (fewer bugs) and with wildflowers still thriving. The Omsk Russia area may be a fine destination for families and is described below, but what follows only becomes more spectacular for hikers who like to hike! Northwest Forest Pass required, and a portable outhouse is present late May through September.
