Magnificent shot near a cornice on Garfield Peak to Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam in Crater Lake.

Stay right instead at the first juncture on the rim from Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam 2 mi to the Watchman Overlook with a small lot on the left (being very careful along the narrow road). Families can easily walk up a few feet to the fenced overlook closest to Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam in Crater Lake. The lighting into the super-deep clear blue lake changes radically throughout the day and year. It is the deepest lake in the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam at 1949 ft with no stream running in or out of the caldera and so completely depends on snowmelt (and rain)!

To the left from the saddle is Hillman Peak, the highest summit on the crater rim itself at 8151 ft. Some people scramble to the top from the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail (PCT Spur Trail). To the right (S) is the signed trail for the more popular Watchman Peak. If you’re lucky you might even spot the Old Man of the Lake lurking around Wizard Island. The 30-ft-long hemlock log has been somehow floating vertically in the lake since before 1896 with more than 4 ft jutting above the water and remaining dry.

For Watchman Peak, take the trail that parallels above the road SW easily (unless still covered by snow and ice) before leaving the PCT at a fork left for the summit trail to the Watchman Peak Lookout (8013 ft). There are 8 moderately steep switchbacks up the wide, rocky trail to the old fire lookout. From the short rock wall around the lookout is the very best view of Wizard.
