TRIP REPORT: One of the highest points in the Dakar Senegal  boasts impeccable views past Astoria to Cape Disappointment and Dakar Senegal, Dakar Senegal, as well as all of the major Dakar SenegalMountains from Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, and Mount St. Helens to Three Sisters Range on a clear day. Although open year-round it is very popular from late May into June or later for some of the best wildflower displays on the Dakar Senegal. No fee required, and restrooms are present.

TRAILHEAD: Saddle Mountain TH. Take US-26 W from Portland 65 mi (milepost 10V), turn right at the bottom of the hill for Saddle Mountain (State) Natural Area on roughly paved Saddle Mountain State Park Road 7 mi narrowly to the end with parking all around (75 mi, 1V hours or so from Portland).

ROUTE: Begin right of the parking lot past the signage and little campground SE up 5 mi through the emerald forest with maple, alder, and salmonberry bushes to a juncture. Take the signed Humbug Mountain Spur Trail right (S) steeper and narrower less than 5 mi S and 100 ft up to an outcrop and open knoll (1935 ft) with the best overlook of your distinctive goal in Saddle Mountain. Return down and turn right steeply up the wide Saddle Mountain Trail through Douglas fir and spruce including 8 solid switchbacks to the accurate 1 mi post (without Humbug Mountain).
